On Monday 1st July 2024 the Seychelles Investment Board (SIB) hosted the Private Sector Engagement forum as part of its activities to commemorate its 20th anniversary since it was formed, on the 1st July 2004. The forum gathered Ministers, Principal Secretaries, business owners from various industries e.g., finance tourism, trade, and environment.

One of the roles of the Seychelles Investment Board is to contribute to towards the development of an investor-friendly business environment. After celebrating two decades of existence, now is the opportune time to analyse and understand the many factors that will influence investment in the years to come. SIB felt it was important that the event highlighted its mandate to promote investments whilst also encouraging a discussion about the economy, business, and the future of investment in Seychelles.

The event had two panel discussions: one focusing on the future for investments in Seychelles and the other on sustainable investment in Seychelles. The panels were moderated by innovative leaders, Dr. Michael Hall and Ms. Angelique Juliette who helped create a thoughtful and insightful discussion of industry experts on the panel.
SIB is convincing that investing time and dialogue in bringing more information and guidance around business-oriented topics will improve on the on the Seychelles’ investment landscape.

The Seychelles Investment Board (SIB) is concerned about the allegations being made with regards to the tender process for the Victoria Waterfront Development project. We affirm that the process and subsequent evaluation were done in compliance with the relevant procedures under the Procurement Act. The evaluation of the project bids was conducted by an independent Evaluation Committee consisting of both public and private sector representatives.

In line with the Procurement Act, any aggrieved bidder who has not been successful has the right to appeal against the decision by Wednesday, March 6, 2023, as per the letter issued to them. Henceforth, their appeal will be heard by an independent Investment Appeals Panel.

SIB assures its commitment to uphold transparency and fairness in all its procedures. We look forward to the completion of this project and a more vibrant Victoria.

The Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) is an initiative of the AIM Foundation, an independent international organisation fully committed to empower the world’s economy by boosting effective promotion strategies and facilitating opportunities for economic productivity and expansion. The Foundation is also known for undertaking the operation and management of the AIM Global Investment Network and its 15 affiliated Business Groups, including the supervision of the Annual Investment Meeting Global and Regional Chapters.

Establishing itself as a leading investment platform in the Middle East, the Annual Investment Meeting has aspired to ignite positive advancement by generating investment opportunities, sustaining solidarity, and developing economic relations among nations. Additionally, it also had the ability of addressing the global ordeals that has an impactful effect on economic growth. Every edition of the Annual Investment Meeting is an event that offers the opportunity to address the fundamental challenges that nations are being confronted with on their journey to achieving development. Moreover, discussions about investment trends and fuels to economic diversification were also on the itinerary of the event. 

This year’s annual investment meeting was attended by two representatives from the Seychelles Investment Board, Mr.  Roland Laljee, Director for Investment Promotion, Ms.  Karine Benstrong, Investment Analyst and Ms. Zenabe Daman, Deputy CEO of the Seychelles Financial Authority.  The team attended various presentations and took the opportunity to expand their knowledge and expertise as well as exchange optimal practices fit for the country.

Seychelles’ seafood industry has made a remarkable impression at this year’s Seafood Expo Global currently being held in Barcelona, Spain.

The event, which marks its 30th edition, has become the largest in history, with 2,244 companies from 87 countries showcasing their products and services. Following the success of its participation last year, Seychelles’ local fish exporters and government partners have come together to exhibit the best of the country’s ocean products at the Expo.

The Seafood Expo serves to connect seafood suppliers and related services to local, regional, and global marketplaces, while promoting sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.

Under the esteemed umbrella of the Association of Fish Processors and Exporters Seychelles (AFPES), Gemini Fishing Company, Marlu Seychelles, Ocean Basket, and Tuna Exporters (Seychelles) are at the forefront of Seychelles’ representation this year.

The Seychelles pavilion, located in the first hall of the Expo, is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Seychelles Fishing Authority, Seychelles Investment Board, and the private sector. Seychelles’ diverse and high-quality seafood is being showcased at the Expo, with fresh fish selections such as yellowfin tuna, red snapper, and grouper. The Central Common Cold Storage (CCCS) has also made its debut at the Expo, highlighting the increasing importance of the service sector in Seychelles’ seafood industry.

The Seychelles pavilion has already garnered significant interest from buyers, who are relishing the sashimi products crafted by the local and foreign chef team while engaging with suppliers and service providers. The Expo is expected to further enhance the reputation of Seychelles’ seafood industry and provide promising new market opportunities for its growing private sector.

The success of Seychelles’ participation in the Seafood Expo Global is a testament to the country’s commitment in promoting its seafood products, and it is hoped that it will continue to shine on a global scale.

In a collaborative effort between the Seychelles Investment Board (SIB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), an insightful investment session was held today at COP28 in Dubai. The event, themed "Paving the way for a more sustainable investment in Seychelles," saw key figures delivering impactful speeches to promote sustainable development.

The Minister for Investment, Entrepreneurship, and Industry initiated the proceedings with opening remarks, setting the stage for the UN Assistant Secretary General and the Regional Director for UNDP’s Bureau for Africa H.E. Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa, who delivered a compelling keynote speech.

The morning session was dedicated to presenting the Seychelles SDG investor map, skillfully presented by the CEO of SIB. The afternoon session, themed "Action today for the future of sustainable development," highlighted investment opportunities in the blue and circular economies. Renowned speakers included Mr. Mervin Cedras from Tourbookers, Ms. Judy Jeanne from Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA), Ms. Kym Samy from the Department of Blue Economy, and Mr. Christopher Lespoir from Harmony Investment.

This event not only showcased Seychelles' commitment to sustainable practices but also provided a platform for stakeholders to explore concrete actions for a more environmentally conscious and economically viable future.

The largest-ever Seafood Expo Global opened today Tuesday 25th April 2023, and for the next two days at the Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via exhibition grounds, which will be the epicentre of business in the seafood industry, gathering exhibitors from every corner of the world. 

The 2023 edition features new country pavillions like Seychelles and new country exhibitors from the Association of Fish Processors and Exporters of Seychelles (AFPES). The Seychelles country pavillion is a collaboration between the Ministry of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Seychelles Fishing Authority (SFA), Seychelles Investment Board (SIB) and AFPES.

The Seafood Expo Global is a platform to meet qualified buyers with strong purchasing power worldwide and is regarded as one of the trade events that allows the fostering and growing of business in the global seafood market. Exhibiting at Seafood Expo Global will allow our processors to advertise themselves in front of top seafood buyer’s eager to network with our companies.
