Investing in Education: Trotter’s Stop Pre and Primary School at Ile Du Port

Trotter’s Stop Pre and Primary School, located at Ile Du Port on Mahe is a private school for preschoolers through to Primary 4 students.  As part of its after-care services SIB paid a visit to the school and met with the Founder and School Director Mrs. Poonam Verma, in order to learn more about her business and to offer SIB’s guidance and advice where needed.

Mrs. Verma is a veteran of the teaching profession who began her career in the field of education and training 35 years ago in India, then at the Ministry of Education in Seychelles followed by the International School of Seychelles. She opened a Montessori day-care centre in 2011 at Belair with 15 students. The success and popularity of the school propelled her to expand, leading to the birth of the new campus at Ile du Port in September 2018. Her school now has 200 students, aged two to nine years. Trotter’s Stop currently employs fifteen local staff and seven expatriates.

Mrs. Verma explained how the school proudly follows the National UK curriculum and uses Oxford learning materials. Outside of classroom activities, students can also enjoy dance, P.E., guitar lessons, swimming and field trips. The centre also prides itself on encouraging healthy eating habits by guiding parents on what to pack for their children’s snack times, and by offering healthy lunches at an additional cost.

During the show-round, the SIB team observed the variety of outside-classroom areas and activities such as swimming pool, covered sand pit, two large playgrounds to cater to different age groups.

To conclude the visit, SIB was able to discuss with Mrs. Verma the services we offer to business-owners and invited her to contact us should she need assistance with the business or with re-investment.
