What is the Capital Market?

A market in economics is usually defined as a structure where buyers and sellers can exchange any types of goods and services. This simple definition applies to the capital market in that it is a market for raising and advancing capital for investment.

A capital market is a component of a financial market for long-term investments. A capital market is, therefore, the part of the financial system that is concerned with raising funds, where investors and businesses come together to buy, sell and trade in financial instruments such as shares, bonds and other long-term investments, all commonly referred to as securities.
